Western Trip Summary, July-August 2013
Sunday 24 November 2013 65 °F
Hi all,
Before I post about our Panama trip which will start tomorrow, I would like to tell you about a trip our family took out west.
In late July, our family flew to the beautiful Sawtooth National Forest (specifically the Sun Valley area) and stayed there for a few weeks. Here are some bird photos from that portion of the trip:
American Dipper
Western Tanager (male)
Cedar Waxwing
Pileated Woodpecker (male)
Rufous Hummingbird (female)
Then, about two weeks into our stay in Sun Valley, the huge Beaver Creek Forest Fire ignited. Soon, we were purchasing gas masks and living miserably in the thick smoke.
Finally, when pre-evacuation orders were issued, we departed for Boise and took up residence in a luxurious hotel, recovering from our tortuous episode in Sun Valley. Then, my dad flew in from Chicago and we departed for Yellowstone National Park.
Here are a few photos from Yellowstone:
American Bison with geysers in the background
Bald Eagle
Yellowstone Falls
American White Pelican
After three days, we drove down to Grand Teton National Park and stayed there for a week. Here are the photos:
Osprey pair
Yellow-headed Blackbird (male)
Black Bear (juvenile)
Our family in front of the Teton Range. Note the Grand Teton dominating the center of the photo with Teton Glacier just to the right and below it.
Bull Moose in Moose, Wyoming.
It was a very fun, exciting trip, and I hope you enjoyed the photos!
Stay tuned for photos from Panama, starting tomorrow.
