ANOTHER great pre-school morning at Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary!
Sandpipers, too lazy to identify at this late posting hour:
SWAMP SPARROW:
Shorebirds including BAIRD’S SANDPIPER and SANDERLING:
NELSON’S SPARROW, awesome bird!
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER male:
Flyby RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS:
Male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK:
CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, another fun sparrow species!
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER male:
Male ORCHARD ORIOLE:
Perhaps my favorite bird of the day was this YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT male, a beautiful species I have only ever previously identified by sound!
Back at home, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS were in abundance:
EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE:
SWAINSON’S THRUSH:
NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH:
Bird-of-the-day to the Yellow-breasted Chat with runners-up to the Nelson’s Sparrow and Baird’s Sandpiper. Stay tuned, I will be birding Montrose AGAIN tomorrow morning!
Happy May birding,
Henry
