Chicago, IL

Yesterday, May 13, I led a bird walk at Columbus Park. It was a giant success!
We started off with this beautiful male SCARLET TANAGER:
SOLITARY SANDPIPERS:
Juvenile RED-SHOULDERED HAWK:
WOOD DUCKS:
EASTERN PHOEBE:
GREAT BLUE HERON:
Male AMERICAN REDSTART:
CASPIAN TERN:
First-year male BALTIMORE ORIOLE:
SONG SPARROW:
This obliging BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON perched for gorgeous views:
An uncommon, shy MOURNING WARBLER, my first of the year, was probably the highlight of the walk!
Bird-of-the-day to the Mourning Warbler with runners-up to the Scarlet Tanager, Red-shouldered Hawk, and Black-crowned Night-Heron.
Happy birding!
Henry
