Mt. Baldy Again

Catching up on my last three Idaho posts!

On Saturday, I hiked part of the way up Mt. Baldy in Sun Valley in search of the Black-backed Woodpecker. I successfully heard one calling but never managed to lay eyes on it as I have done before at that location!

Pristine Hike in the Pioneers

Sawtooth National Forest, ID

all seasons in one day 88 °F

Today my family planned on hiking up to a high alpine ridge called PK Pass; however, the road was blocked off due to it being washed out so we hiked up the beautiful forest road through a secluded valley in the Pioneer Mountains instead! Make lemonade out of lemons!

Central Idaho Birding!

Some recent birding in the Warm Springs neighborhood near Sun Valley, Idaho yielded some avian goodies!

This beautifully-cooperative AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKER was a fantastic surprise:

As well as this cute NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL, a species I have only seen once before, in the exact same place five years ago!

Today, a family rafting trip north of Stanley yielded some nice species, including an unphotographed pair of WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKERS because I didn't want to get my camera wet on the raft. The rafting was awesome!
